12 Facts About Smosh You're Dying to Know
Posted in Entertainment on Jan 20th, 2019
In a world where YouTube stars and series are commonplace, it’s easy to forget there was a time when neither existed. In 2002, in what was also a pre-YouTube world, Anthony Padilla built a website. That website was smosh.com and the first content to be on it was Flash animations. After this, other content creators would upload videos to the website, also creating a community. Finally, when his friend Ian Hecox joined Padilla, the sketch comedy series we know today became a reality.
12. Smosh Came Before YouTube
These days, we know YouTube as a place where creatives can channel their talents into videos. Be it comedy, makeup tips, or cover songs; there’s an avenue for any creator who wants a place. Furthermore, there’s also a chance for them to make it big. Before YouTube, there was nothing like it around. Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla had already been making magic on smosh.com when YouTube came to be. But, it was when they joined YouTube together, making silly videos to make themselves laugh, that the Smosh brand came to be.
The funny thing is, the guys didn’t intend for their videos to become a global hit. It was just so much easier to upload them to YouTube than to email them to their friends.
