15 of Gene Hackman’s Greatest Films

Posted in Entertainment on Jan 17th, 2019

Before he was a successful actor, Gene Hackman was a struggling one, working as a doorman in New York. He once overheard an instructor say he “wouldn’t amount to anything.” While studying at the Pasadena Playhouse, he was voted the least likely to succeed.

Hackman’s peers were catastrophically wrong, and he has remained a household name for decades.

It seems, for now, the 85-year-old has retired for good, saying he doesn’t want to deal with the stress of the business anymore. If you’re looking for a Hackman fix, but don’t know where to start, then check out this list of his greatest ever roles.

15. Superman

You know what’s great about Gene Hackman’s Superman? It’s not part of the DCEU. It’s not trying to play catch up to the MCU. It’s not even aware of Universal’s DU – though, I doubt many people are. Superman is just a movie about an all-powerful guy going after an all-intelligent guy, and Gene Hackman plays all-intelligence with all the whimsy and charm we look for in a superhero movie’s villain.
