Billy Dee Williams' 15 Most Memorable Roles
Posted in Entertainment on Jan 20th, 2019
Among younger viewers, Billy Dee Williams is probably best known for his portrayal of Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars franchise. It’s fair to say, most fans would love to see an older Calrissian swagger back onto the screen in the latest films. However, when Star Wars was made Williams was already a household name, with some referring to him as the first authentic black male lead. For a guy who started acting during the civil rights movement, that’s a pretty big image to live up to.
15. The Final Comedown
In this 1972 film about the exploitation and mistreatment of African-Americans, Billy Dee plays the hero, a young black man, sick of the status quo. He decides to take matters into his own hands and incites a revolution. With some of the grittiest scenes you’ll ever see, this one’s hard to watch. Despite the poor writing and underdeveloped characters, Billy Dee’s star quality shines through.
