Actress, humanitarian, and social activist Dame Judi Dench is perhaps one of the most prolific talents in film and theater history. She began her career with the Old Vic Company in 1957 and performed many of Shakespeare’s works during her time there. From there, she moved onto the National Theatre Company and the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as films and television shows. She currently possesses 63 award wins and 172 nominations across many categories. She is widely considered one of the best actresses in the world and frequently tops the polls as Britain’s best actor.
Dench earned a BAFTA film award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in this 1985 film. It was her second BAFTA film award nomination and is every bit deserved. The film is a drama focusing on the unsettling events following the death of a young man. Dench’s character continues the haunting theme of the film and shows off the many connections a single person’s death can have.
