With a career spanning almost 60 years, James Brolin is one of the most accomplished and talented actors to grace the field. As a teenager, Brolin was fascinated with James Dean and began shooting his own 8mm films. In 1960, he joined 20th Century Fox and began acting in Sandra Dee films. From there, he moved onto television roles beginning with Bus Stop in 1961. After struggling for a decade to make it big, Brolin made his first major film appearance in Skyjack in 1972 and from there it is history. He is credited with over 130 projects and the list grows every year.
15. Marcus Welby M.D.
This marked Brolin’s first major role in a television series. The show was a medical drama focusing on the conflicts between two very different, but well-meaning, doctors. Brolin played the strait-laced heart-throb character, Steven Kiley. Robert Young played opposite him as the title character, Marcus Welby. The show aired from 1969 to 1976 and was the first in ABC’s history to become the #1 show on television. James Brolin won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his work on this show, as well as being nominated for three more Emmys and two more Golden Globes.
