15. A Dress Fit for a Duchess
Joining the British royal family isn't a simple matter, even for a woman from an extremely, wealthy family like Kate Middleton. Kate and Prince William needed Queen Elizabeth's permission before they were allowed to marry due to the 1701 Act of Settlement that protects unions that might injure the royal family. On the Queen's behest, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were married April 29, 2011, at Westminister Abbey. Throngs of eager Brits clamored to the streets to catch a glimpse of the royal carriage as it made its way to Buckingham Palace. Kate Middleton didn't disappoint the crowd when she emerged radiant and beautiful in her elegant, couture gown. Kate's wedding dress was very well received by hopeful brides around the world and fashion industry leaders. The dress has been reproduced thousands of times since Kate wore it in 2011.
