How Elizabeth Became Queen

Posted in Lifestyle on Jan 20th, 2019

Inching closer toward her 67th year of rule, many Britons have never known a monarch other than Elizabeth. With such a long and prestigious history, it may come as a surprise to some to know that at birth she wasn't in line for the throne. Her ascension followed a series of twists and turns that have inspired countless movies and tv shows (some of our favorites are The Crown and The King's Speech). The story of how Elizabeth became Queen has it all: romance, tragedy, scandal, and (most importantly) character growth.

15. Never Meant to Be

Born on April 21, 1926, Elizabeth was never meant to be Queen. In fact, her father, Prince Albert, the Duke of York never intended to become King. He was second in line for the throne behind his big brother Edward, The Prince of Whales and wanted nothing more for his small family than a quiet life out of the royal spotlight.
