As far as animation icons go, there are none more famous than Walt Disney. The founder of Disney and the man responsible for the first animated movie paved the way for cartoons of today. 2018 marks the 90 year anniversary of his most famous creation, Mickey Mouse. Since his first appearance in Steamboat Willie in 1928, Mickey has been an icon the world over. There are some amazing facts about Walt that not many people know. We want to take a look back at his life and career to uncover some of the surprising things about Walt Disney.

16. Bye, Oswald

By far Walt’s most famous creation was Mickey Mouse, but it was actually a strange little character by the name of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit he first made. Oswald is nowhere near as cute or catchy as Mickey, but he created him for Universal in 1927 and ended up losing the rights to him the following year. This loss led him to then design Mickey Mouse, so this was definitely a case of silver lining.
