Let’s face it; we’re a world who loves TV. You could put just about anything on the screen, and there’d be millions of people watching at any given time, and we’ve certainly shown it with our obsession with reality TV and cooking competitions. What about when something really special happens though, and you get most of the civilized world tuning in? We’re here to look at those hugely memorable TV events in history that drew more crowds than the finale of Gossip Girl, and with good reason.

13. NYE Down Under

Sydney spares no expense when it comes to New Year’s Eve, and for us poor folk who can’t actually hang out there for the holidays, we can get a glimpse of it on TV. Taking home the record for the most watched NYE event in the whole world, a massive 1.1 billion people tuned in for the 2011/2012 celebrations to see how the Aussies do it in style and damn it, we weren’t disappointed.
